Let’s do something good on this Thanksgiving?

I need your help. 

Meet Mikey. AKA Michael Dunlap. AKA Ding-Ding. He is one of my closest friends. I love him in a way different than I love anyone else in my life. He is incredible. He is compassionate. Generous. Empathetic. He was the first person (aside from doctors) in this state whom I told about being raped. When I was a stripper, he went to Master Casey frantic, not knowing what to do about me. And afterwards, when I had no money and my food was destroyed, he bought me a bag of groceries.

Lately, he has been through hell.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and you know what? His father has just been through chemo and radiation and cannot eat food. He gets to prepare a meal, and eat it in front of a man who cannot eat. 

His whole family will gather around the table for dinner. Wait- that’s not right. In the past year, his brother has spent time missing, in jail, and in various psych wards. He very recently was released from the psych ward. He is now somewhere out there on his own.

A few days after he was released, Michael was able to see him. They were getting along well for a while. His brother seemed to be almost “normal”. And then things turned. His brother threatened to slit his throat. He threatened to send the Hells Angels to kill Michael and their mother.

This is the holiday Mike gets. He gets a holiday full of sorrow of his father’s illness. He gets a holiday full of guilt for trying to enjoy food. He gets a holiday full of grief for the loss of his brother. He gets a holiday full of fear of the threats of his brother.

Help me help this young man, whose heart has the capacity to be so very big, but which is being smashed and crushed into a pulp. Please. Please.

Please write him a letter. Tell him that the world really is a good place, and thank him for contributing only kindness to it. Whatever you reblog this with, or whatever you send me personally,I will surprise him at his Thanksgiving festivities and give to him. This young man deserves the world, but as of right now the world is not within his reach. The least you can do is help me give him well wishes from his friends, and from people he will never know.
